Tom and Nancy (McCreery) Billings of McPherson will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 2 with a trip to Mackinak Island, Mich., with family.

They were married Aug. 2, 1963, at the United Presbyterian Church in Jetmore, Kan.

Family members include Dr. Brian and Sheila Billings, McPherson; David and Esther Billings, doctors of philosophy, Grand Rapids, Mich.; and Todd and Rachel Billings, doctors of philosophy, Holland, Mich. Their six grandchildren are Anastasia and Xavier, Catherine and Naomi, Neti and Nathaniel Billings.

Dr. Tom Billings served two years on an Indian Reservation with the Public Health Service in Eagle Butte, S.D. Tom and Nancy served two years in Congo/Zaire as missionaries with the Evangelical Covenant Church. Tom established his medical practice in McPherson in November of 1971 and continues in practice full time. Nancy taught school in Prairie Village, Kan., and Congo, Africa. Both have traveled on several mission trips while living in McPherson.

Nancy devoted herself to her family and community service, including serving on the USD 418 Board of Education and founding and teaching a Bible Study Fellowship Class in McPherson for 12 years. Nancy continues to work as a CASA-court appointed advocate for a child in the court system because of abuse or neglect.
