Doris Mae Decker, 92, of Southaven, Miss., and formally of Galva, passed away at 11:57 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, peacefully, at DeSoto Healthcare Center, Southaven, Miss., after several stays in the hospital. She was ushered into the presence of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ to be with her husband, Red.
Doris was born on May 17, 1921, in rural Galva, the daughter of the late Lena B. (Unruh) and Frank Rudiger.
Doris attended and graduated from Lone Tree Country School, rural Galva.
She was a member of First Baptist Church McPherson, and was a past member of the O.U.R. Sunday School, Class and was currently a member of the Fidelis Class.
Doris was a homemaker and business partner along with her husband Vernon “Red” Decker in Decker Repair and Decker Ditching, Galva.
Doris Mae Rudiger was united in marriage to Vernon “Red” Decker on Feb. 18, 1940, at McPherson. He died on Aug. 9, 2003. The young couple established their first home together near Galva.
She is survived by: Son Dausie D., husband of Carol Decker, of Hernando, Miss.; Son Darrell D., husband of Barbara Decker, of Fort Worth, Texas; Son Tony G., husband of Shirley Decker, of Independence, Mo.; Daughter Winette J., wife of Ronald Whitlock, of Topeka; Daughter Debbie, wife of Richard Dilling, of Ecru, Miss.; Brother Galen, of Newton. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon “Red” Decker; sisters, Francis Nickel, Susie Klatt, Pauline Smith and Irene Ratzlaff.
Family will welcome friends in a time of sharing from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 6, 2013, in the East Room at the First Baptist Church, McPherson.
The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013, at the Empire Cemetery, rural Galva, with son-in-law, Pastor Richard Dilling officiating.
