A fire burned a vacant house at 1012 N. Grimes Sunday.
A neighbor alerted 911 to the fire at about 5:12 a.m. The fire started on a back porch, but officials have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
No one was injured in the fire.
Rick Unruh, McPherson assistant fire chief, said smoke detectors were installed in the home and were sounding when fire firefighters arrived. He said fire crews were able to confine the fire to the rear of the house.
Damage is estimated at $30,000 to $35,000.
The new residents of the home were supposed to move into the home Sunday. Because the house was empty, damages to contents were only estimated at $1,000.
