  • McPherson College runner Aspen Frey was awarded Capital One Academic All-American status as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
She was placed on the second-team for the College Division.
The Capital One College Division Academic All-America® men's and women's cross country/track and field teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.
Frey was Mac's top cross country athlete and anchored the distance group of the track and field team in 2013.
This season, she broke the track and field school record in the 5000 meter run for both indoor and outdoor. She also qualified for the NAIA Outdoor National Championship track meet in the marathon.
As an Elementary Education major, Frey holds a 4.0 GPA and is set to student-teach in McPherson in the fall.
Earlier this summer, she was named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
