The McPherson Mid-America Youth Basketball tournament got off to a roaring start Friday, with several games played in three of the four age groups in the three-day tournament.
Both McPherson High teams that participated won their games, as did the McPherson Lady Bullpups in the grade 6-7 pool.
The MHS boys 11-12 squad went 2-0, defeating Minneapolis 45-30 and Southeast of Saline 53-35. The Bullpups will play this evening at 8:30 p.m. against the Ellsworth Bearcats.
Meanwhile, the 6-7 Lady Bullpups absolutely dominated their two opponents Friday, allowing only eight total points between the two games. The Pups beat Chase County 38-2 and then down the Mac County Flight 36-6. They will play one more game in pool play this morning at 9 a.m. against the Sharpshooters.
The MHS girls defeated Ell-Saline 34-10 in their one game Friday. They will have two more games today, one at two against the Lady Bears and then again at 5:30 p.m. against Bishop Miege Red.
Games resumed this morning at 8 a.m. at the McPherson College Sport Center and will continue through Sunday afternoon, when the championship games are played.
