  • Bethany College announced the signing of Ariel Buhr of Lincoln, Neb., to a letter of intent to play volleyball for the 2013-2014 academic year.
Buhr comes to Bethany from Cloud County Community College in Concordia where she played volleyball for two years.
She was in the top 25 of the NJCAA D1 rankings for defense her sophomore year. Buhr also received an academic award at Cloud County.
Prior to attending Cloud County, Buhr attended Lincoln Northeast High School where she played volleyball and soccer for two years.
"Ariel is one of those players that could play just about any position that you need,” Swede coach Nathelea Stephenson said. “The area that really stood out for us was her ability to pass the ball and put it in a position where the setter didn't have to run to get it. Ariel is a competitive individual that comes with college experience."
Buhr is the daughter of Albert and Karen Buhr. She has a 3.5 grade point average and plans to major in elementary education.
The Bethany College Swedes compete in 18 intercollegiate sports in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Bethany participates in the NAIA Champions of Character program, which encourages integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership in student-athletes, coaches, and youth in the community.
Since 1902, Bethany has won 152 conference championships. Learn more about the Bethany College Swede’s athletic programs at www.bethanyswedes.com.
