  • Four members of the Bethany College men's tennis team have been named 2013 KCAC Scholar-Athletes as announced by the conference recently.
    James Bragg is a senior from Sun City, Calif., majoring in sports management. Shane Huggins is a senior from Calliaqua, St. Vincent, majoring in criminal justice. Kane Olsen is a senior from Rotorua, New Zealand, majoring in sports management. Alex Sandri is a senior from Curitiba, Brazil, majoring in physical education.
    Student-athletes must have sophomore standing at the start of the sport season, maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.33 on a 4.0 scale, and letter in their sport.
    Huggins was the Bethany men’s singles win leader during the 2012-2013 season, amassing 22. For his career, he has 47 wins in the singles ranks and 49 in doubles play. He needs only six more wins to take over the career wins record of 53, set by Jack Schoeman.
    As a team, Bethany went 22-2 (7-0 KCAC) this past season, which included winning their 51st KCAC championship and their 10th since 2004.
    They ended their season at the NAIA tournament with a 5-2 loss to Aquinas College on May 15. The Swedes finished the year ninth in the NAIA Coaches Postseason Top 25 Poll.
