Eight-year-old Kaiden Schroeder loves the demo derby. This year, a car has been donated in Kaiden's name to be driven in the featured heat at the 65th McPherson County Fair on at 7 p.m. July 21 in Canton. For $5 a ticket, any spectator could be the driver of that car. Tickets will be drawn after the consolation heat.
Kaiden, son of Chris and Jenny Schroeder, has been fighting Leukemia and is recovering from a bone marrow transplant. All monies raised from ticket sales will help with his medical expenses. There also will be purple T-shirts for sale for $10, and they would like everyone to wear a purple shirt in support of Kaiden.
Tickets and shirts are on sale through the day of the derby. Call 620-242-4808 or stop by Zeitlow Distributing Company. The car is on display this week at Midway Motors and Wallace Chevrolet. To drive the car, winner must have a valid Kansas driver's license, be at least 18 or have a legal guardian sign a notarized paper saying they may drive the car with their permission.
