  • Wm. Alan Ladd, 80, of Galva, passed away at 10:56 a.m., Monday, July 8, 2013, while in the company of family members, at McPherson Hospital, McPherson.
    Alan was born on July 30, 1932, on his parents farm, rural Advance, Mo.,  the son of Dora Pearl (Crites) and William Lacy Ladd.
    Alan attended a country school near Advance, Mo., and graduated from Lutesville High School, Lutesville, Mo., in 1950.  He then served in Germany during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge from the United States Army, he attended Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau, Mo.
    Alan was a member of Galva Christian Church Galva.
    Through the years, Alan worked in many oil fields in Colorado, Wyoming and Western Kansas. After moving to Galva, he worked for Swick Guth as a welder, and retired from the National Cooperative Refinery Association as a maintenance worker and painter after almost 30 years.
    Alan was a member of the American Legion Post 24, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715, and Elk's Lodge No. 502 B.P.O.E. all of McPherson, Kan.
    Alan Ladd was united in marriage to Donna Walline on Dec. 21, 1956, at Hutchinson. They established their first home together in Galva, after moving extensively due to Alan's work in the oil fields.
    Surviving family members include his loving and devoted wife of more than 56 years, Donna Ladd, of Galva; his daughters, Vicki Johnston and her husband Rick, of Wichita, and Toni Shope, of Galva; his seven grandchildren, Angie Coleman and her husband Cameron, Nicole Ozmai and her husband Steve, Lindsay Gribble, Paige Johnston, Travis Myers, Matthew Wescott, and Luke Mann; his six great-grandchildren, Campbell Coleman, Cade Coleman, Kassidy Schumacher, Dawson Myers, Chace Wescott, and Lindsay Mann; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
    Alan was preceded in death by his parents; his son Butch Ladd, his grandson Ryan Gribble, his sisters, Dorothy Sue “Susie” East, Mossette Stanley, and Jane Rockwell.
    Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.  at Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson.
    The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2013, at Galva Christian Church, Galva,   with Reverend Tripp Edwards and Reverend Phil Radatz officiating.
    The final resting place will be in the Empire Cemetery Galva. Military honors will be presented by members of the American Legion Post 24 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 both of McPherson.
    Memorials are suggested to Galva Christian Church in memory of Alan, and they can be sent in care of the Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home; 222 W. Euclid St.; McPherson, KS 67460
