thumper Ad-11Somebody famous once said, “There are three signs of old age.  Loss of memory…I forget the other two.
After having yet ANOTHER birthday - it seems like those damn things come every year – it’s becoming ever more clear that I’m getting rather ancient.
This was highlighted this past week when I attended advanced pediatric life support training at Hutchinson Hospital.   All but one of my fellow students were young enough to be my children.  The one other senior student was not only my age – he was also named “Steven.”
Every time Steven thought of an “old way of doing things” he quizzically turned to me and asked, “Do you remember that?”  Thumpers, MAST Trousers, Sodium Bicarb formulas, and on, and on.  Yes, yes, yes was always my answer.
Old medical workers might seem a bit confused at times, but you’d be confused too if you had learned multiple ways of doing things – often conflicting what was previously taught.   I might have maxed out my hard drive simply with the 64 versions of how to do CPR.
If a person wanted to make a lot of money – and help us senior folks – they would invent a delete device that selectively withdraws antiquated data from your brain.
But, somebody not so famous – me – says, “If you want to stay in the game, then you have to adapt to change.”  So I learned from the instructors in the PALS class and passed the examination.
Google GlassesAnd speaking of new things.  My oldest son recently made a trip to San Francisco to pick up a new piece of technology.  It’s called “Google Glasses.”  He was one of a select group that was chosen to be the initial recipients of this space age equipment.
I don’t know exactly how they work, but he has promised to bring them out to Stafford County.  So, let me know if you want a demonstration.
