Construction is wrapping up on the Sundstrom Conference Center at the corner of Main and Lincoln streets in Lindsborg.
stucco on the exterior of the building was finished this week. A sidewalk will be installed next week, and furniture is being place inside the building.
The building was constructed to resemble the original building that was built on that site in 1879 by J.O. Sundstrom, a local businessman.
The $2.3 million center has 9,000 square feet on its lower floor, which includes a 3,600-square-foot banquet hall that can accommodate up to 300 people.
The center will be equipped with a full-service catering kitchen and bar.
Modern audio visual equipment will be offered for those wishing to conduct conferences at the center.
The second floor of the building will remain unfinished at present but will be able to eventually offer 7,000 square feet of open space that could be used for events, such as parties or trade shows.
All work on the main floor of the building likely will be completed by mid-August. Planners are hoping to have a private opening and then a public open house in late August.
Gary Shogren, Lindsborg director of community development, said people already are inquiring about renting the new building.
Shogren said he hopes the conference center will attract conferences and events to the community midweek when business is usually light.
He said he has been surprised at the calls the city already has received interested in booking the center. Multiple calls have come in inquiring about wedding receptions, and a conference at the center is being discussed.
