Coming out of a disappointing first game against El Dorado Tuesday, the Post 24 Seniors were looking for a spark in game two of the doubleheader to keep from giving up a costly sweep as the summer season draws to a close.
Garrett Higgins proved up to the challenge, taking his first pitch in the bottom of the fourth inning over the fence in left field to break a 1-1 deadlock and propel McPherson to a 6-1 win.
McPherson lost game one 3-2.
“He’s been a nice addition to our team,” McPherson coach Craig Marshall said of Higgins. “We’re thankful to have him.”
Steven Gonzalez went six innings to get the win for McPherson (15-16), giving up only one run off of six hits. He struck out six and walked two. Brodie Burney threw the final inning for the save.
Post 24 wraps the regular season Thursday with a road tilt against Salina.
