  • The Central Christian College Board of Trustees has approved a motion to name the Central Christian College soccer field press box The Keith and Betty Ivers Family Press Box.
When Central Christian College made the decision to add varsity soccer in the fall of 1964, Keith Ivers was named the programs’ inaugural Head Coach. Coach Ivers served as head coach from 1964-1974.
“As a member of the Prairie Junior College Conference, I served as president of the conference for two years,” Ivers said. “I felt if we were going to be part of the conference, we should participate in as many sports as we could. Football was cost prohibitive. Soccer has served us well at Central Christian College.”
The unveiling of the newly named press box will occur as part of the celebration activities during the 50th Anniversary Soccer Reunion at Central Christian College on Sept. 14, 2013 when the Tigers take on Oklahoma Christian University.
“This is a much deserved honor for the Ivers' family as they have been and continue to be faithful givers to the Central Christian College athletics program and the campus as a whole,” Chad Kerr, CCC athletic director, said. “ You won't find anyone nicer out there and to go along with that a loyalty and love for Central that is second to none.”
Current Tiger coach Aaron Hoxie called the honor a tremendous one for the Ivers family.
“To have the vision for the sport at a time in this country when very few people cared about it, is legendary stuff,” Hoxie said. “He had the courage to stand up against the cultural norm for sport and go the other way.  Fifty years later, we are still playing this game as strong as ever.”
The Tiger athletic department is currently finalizing plans for the 50th reunion and will release more details as they become available.
