Helen Watts passed away on July 16, 2013, at Bethany Home, Lindsborg.
She was born Feb. 20, 1916, in Lindsborg to Abel and Ellen (Nilsson) Carlson. She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church. She attended Elvings country school grades one through eight and graduated from Lindsborg High School in 1934. After high school, Helen moved to Kansas City, taking care of children. She moved with the second family to Chicago, living there a few years. During World War II, she moved home to help with the farm and began training as a telephone operator in McPherson. She met Herb Watts and married him on March 31, 1957. She transferred to Manhattan, Kan., and retired from SWBell with 31 years of service. Helen’s trademark was generously caring about other people, showing God’s love throughout her long life of 97 years.
Preceding Helen were her parents, infant brother Arnold Milton and brother Homer. She is survived by her husband, Herb; brother Terence Carlson; sister Eunice Peterson; and many other family members.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2013, with family present from 6 to 7 p.m. at Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 20 at the Evangelical Covenant Church with burial following at Smoky Hill Cemetery, Lindsborg.
