  • Central Christian College senior Mark Gayer is in the midst of a pack of golfers who shot a 10-over-par 80 to open up the 103rd Kansas Amateur Match Play Championship Tuesday at Indian Hills Country Club in Mission Hills.

  • Central Christian College senior Mark Gayer is in the midst of a pack of golfers who shot a 10-over-par 80 to open up the 103rd Kansas Amateur Match Play Championship Tuesday at Indian Hills Country Club in Mission Hills.
    Gayer bogeyed on nine holes and double bogeyed on a par-4 sixth hole. He birdied only once, coming in a stroke under the par-4 ninth hole.
    Pete Krsnich of Wichita is the leader after the first day, having shot a four-under par 66. His round got a big boost with the day’s first of only two eagles on the par five 18th hole.
    Alex Carney of Wichita is second with a 67, followed by Connor Knabe of Leawood, who had a 68. Seven different players are tied for fourth with a 69.
    Gayer was part of the first group of golfers on the course this morning, having teed off at 8:40 a.m.
