Central Christian College senior Mark Gayer is in the midst of a pack of golfers who shot a 10-over-par 80 to open up the 103rd Kansas Amateur Match Play Championship Tuesday at Indian Hills Country Club in Mission Hills.

Central Christian College senior Mark Gayer is in the midst of a pack of golfers who shot a 10-over-par 80 to open up the 103rd Kansas Amateur Match Play Championship Tuesday at Indian Hills Country Club in Mission Hills.
Gayer bogeyed on nine holes and double bogeyed on a par-4 sixth hole. He birdied only once, coming in a stroke under the par-4 ninth hole.
Pete Krsnich of Wichita is the leader after the first day, having shot a four-under par 66. His round got a big boost with the day’s first of only two eagles on the par five 18th hole.
Alex Carney of Wichita is second with a 67, followed by Connor Knabe of Leawood, who had a 68. Seven different players are tied for fourth with a 69.
Gayer was part of the first group of golfers on the course this morning, having teed off at 8:40 a.m.
