  • Helen Mae Krehbiel-Kaufman, 87, of McPherson, passed away at 2:12 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, while in the company of family members, at Cedars House.

  • Helen Mae Krehbiel-Kaufman, 87, of McPherson, passed away at 2:12 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, while in the company of family members, at Cedars House.
    Helen was born on May 4, 1926, in Moundridge, the daughter of Lena (Krehbiel) and Benjamin “Ben” B. Goering.
    Helen attended Peaceful country school near Moundridge and graduated from Moundridge High School, Moundridge.
    She was a member of First Mennonite Church McPherson.
    Helen was a homemaker, and through the years she owned and operated the Friendship House Cafeteria along with her parents-in-law, owned and operated the Sunset Cafe, worked for Sir Roberts, cooked and was kitchen manager at the Elks Club for five years, cooked for the Branding Iron at the bowling alley, and retired as the group leader in the manufacturing department at Sterling Drug.  After retirement, she became a nanny.  
    Helen enjoyed reading, helping with church activities, quilting, cooking and bird watching.
    Helen M. Goering was united in marriage to Arnold G. Krehbiel on Aug. 15, 1946, at the Eden Mennonite Church, Moundridge. He died on Feb. 16, 1994. Helen M. Krehbiel was united in marriage to Dan Kaufman in October 1997 at the First Mennonite Church, McPherson.  Dan died in February 2003.
    Surviving family members include her children, Vickie Williams, of McPherson, and Gene Krehbiel, of McPherson; her step-children, Jay Kaufman and his wife Linda, of McPherson, Rosetta “Zettie” Wedel and her husband Dave, of Moundridge, Denise Stucky and her husband Herb, of Moundridge, and Doug Kaufman and his wife Peggy, of Nickerson; her five grandchildren, Kelly Williams and his wife Melinda, of McPherson, Kirk Williams and his wife Jamie, of Stonewall, La., Kimberly Costner and her husband Ralph, of McPherson, Tory Krehbiel, of McPherson, and Lisa Boyles and her significant other Fransico Cabasses, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; nine great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Arnold Krehbiel and Dan Kaufman, her brothers Herman, Richard, Ervin, John and David Goering; her sisters, Lorene Goering and Viola Kaufman; her great-granddaughter, Courtney Williams, son-in-law, Richard Williams and daughter-in-law, Brenda Krehbiel.
    Friends are invited to call from 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at the First Mennonite Church, McPherson.
    The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at the First Mennonite Church, McPherson, with Pastor Kathy Neufeld Dunn officiating.
    The final resting place will be at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson.
    Memorial contributions may be given to the Helen Krehbiel-Kaufman memorial fund, and they can be sent in care of the Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home; 222 W. Euclid St.; McPherson, KS 67460.
