Central Christian College announced the hiring of a full-time athletic trainer and a new assistant softball coach this past week.
Lacey Martinez was hired as CCC’s head athletic trainer. Martinez is a McPherson High School graduate and then graduated from Sterling College with her degree in Athletic Training.
“I’m excited to be a part of a family oriented school,” Martinez said. “I’m already feeling at home and I’m excited to get the year going and meet all the student athletes while working closely with the coaches.”
Martinez comes to Central from Pratt Community College where she held the position of Assistant Athletic Trainer. This is the first time the school has had a full time Athletic Trainer employed by the college.
“This is a huge step for Central’s athletic program and the college as a whole,” Chad Kerr, Central Christian Athletic Director, said. “This had been a goal of mine the past couple of years while we had been utilizing a third party contract with a local Health organization who provided trainer coverage for us. It basically worked well but I feel this step will give us better coverage for our student athletes.”
Kerr, who serves as the Tigers head softball coach, also announced the hiring of Tina Haga as his new assistant.
Haga coached for eight years at Hesston High School, seven of which as the head coach, and greatly improved all facets of the HHS softball program. Her teams improved their record each season while she was at the helm.
Haga will start her new position on Aug.23.
