Juanita (Nita) Steffey passed away quietly on July 23, 2013 after a long suffering illness.

Juanita (Nita) Steffey passed away quietly on July 23, 2013 after a long suffering illness. Her daughter and son were by her side.
She was born Juanita Ann Jones on November 27, 1943 in Leavenworth, Kan., to Alva R. and Catherine A. (Manthe) Jones. When she was a young girl, she attended school all throughout the United States in such places as Texas, Colorado, and Hawaii. She graduated from Lansing High School in 1961 and began working at Fort Leavenworth as a Secretary.
At 18, she married the love of her life, John V. Steffey. Together they worked in the restaurant business, raised and loved two children and lived life to the fullest. The family moved to Tonkawa, Okla., in 1978. After working in the restaurant business, Nita went to work at Northern Oklahoma College as a Graphic Artist. She also attended night school at the college and in 1984 graduated with honors with an Associates Degree in Graphic Art.
In 1986 the family moved to the Atlanta, Ga., area and she began working as a Graphic artist/computer specialist at the Atlanta VA medical Center. After the passing of her husband in 1996, Nita traveled Europe, visiting 11 different countries. She was a member of the Snellville United Methodist Church and was very active in her Sunday School Class. Nita was the facilitator for Rainbows for All Children, a class that helps youth deal with different types of grief such as death and divorce. She retired from Department of Veterans Affairs in 2009.
Nita loved doing any sort of crafts, quilting, growing orchids, birds, listening to her ipod, and playing games and reading on her Nook. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. Her three grandsons were the absolute joy in her life and she enjoyed seeing them any chance she got.
She is preceded in death by her husband John Steffey, her parents, Alva and Catherine Jones, and her brother, Dennis Jones.
She is survived by her daughter, Kim Steffey of Snellville, Ga., her son, Scott and daughter-in-law, Kristina Steffey of Lawrenceville, Ga., and three grandsons, Shane, Sam, and Tristan Steffey, all of Lawrenceville, Ga.
Visitation will be August 30, 2013 from 9-11 a.m. with a memorial service beginning at 11 a.m. at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 531 Shawnee Street, Leavenworth, Kan. Committal Service will be at the Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Rainbows for All Children through the Davis Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth, Kan.
