  • United Way of McPherson County will launch its annual campaign on September 1. This year’s fundraising efforts include a series of events designed to promote United Way partner agencies, engage a variety of age groups and demonstrate the positive influence United Way has on local communities. This year’s theme “Join the Team” encourages new donors and collaborative community support.
Events begin on September 5 with United Way hosting the McPherson Chamber Coffee at 9:30 a.m., 306 N. Main. An information night will follow from 6-8 p.m. in conjunction with The Main Event in downtown McPherson. Merchants will host United Way partner agencies, and shoppers will be encouraged to retrieve signatures from agency representatives. Shoppers completing a full “team roster” representing the 14 participating agencies will be entered in a drawing. The grand prize is worth more than $200 and includes a United Way sports bag filled with United Way merchandise and gift certificates from local stores.
Kickoff festivities continue with a free basketball clinic on Saturday, September 7, 2-4 p.m., at the McPherson College Sport Center. McPherson County children attending 3rd thru 6th grade are invited to attend. Volunteers from the McPherson College men’s and women’s basketball teams will help local youth develop skills and an overall understanding for the game. While pre-registration is encouraged by calling 620-241-5152, walk-in participants will be accepted.
On Sunday, September 8, United Way of McPherson County is encouraging intergenerational relationships in conjunction with Grandparents Day. All community members are invited to participate in fellowship time at Freddy’s Frozen Custard from 5-9 p.m. A percentage of sales received that evening will be donated to United Way.
The celebration culminates with the Campaign Kickoff on Tuesday, September 10, 5:30-7 p.m., at the McPherson Opera House Ballroom. Donor recognition and campaign details will be highlighted at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
United Way of McPherson County aspires to raise $225,000 by December 31. All funds received through individual, business and employee campaign pledges will remain in McPherson County to support human service programs addressing issues related to health, education and financial stability.
