  • Hampton Inn plans to begin construction of a new hotel next year at 200 N. Centennial in McPherson.
The hotel, which will be built immediately north of McDonald's, will have 72 rooms. Rather than a conference room, it will have a meeting room intended for use by 10 people. It will not feature a restaurant.
The property, which has been purchased from Glenn and Joyce Hoover for an undisclosed amount, has proven to be problematic as it lies in a 100-year flood plain.
This will require a significant amount of landscaping work, which will include converting the current drainage system to a detention pond in order to control floodwater.
The City Planning Commission has not yet given final approval to the site plan, but the hotel's building design has been finalized.
There will be discussion oat the Sept. 26 City Planning Commission meeting on Hampton's request for a 59-foot height variance since the current zoning regulations require 35 feet.
