  • Bulldogs drop first match against Sterling

  • It had to happen sometime, as streaks rarely last and for Lady Bulldog volleyball, that end came at the hands of Sterling College as the Warriors defeated Mac 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 16-25, 18-25) in the first conference match of the season.

  • It had to happen sometime, as streaks rarely last and for Lady Bulldog volleyball, that end came at the hands of Sterling College as the Warriors defeated Mac 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 16-25, 18-25) in the first conference match of the season.
    The 9-1 Lady Warriors took set one, holding off a late surge by McPherson. In set number two, MC got up early and held on, taking the game 25-23.
    Sterling came out firing in the next two sets, throwing Mac on their heels. The Warriors won the next two (25-16, 25-18) to take the match 3-1.
    Tori Phelan and Cortlyne Huppe each made it into double figures in kills for McPherson, tallying 13 and 10, respectively. Huppe also had two solo and two assisted blocks in the loss.
    Setters Ashley Frankenbery and Rachel Phillips were near equal in sets as they accumulated 29 between the two of them. Phillips led the duo with 16.
    MC won't get long to linger on their defeat as they travel to Avila University for their tournament that is to be held this weekend.
    The Lady Bulldogs' first match is set for 1 p.m. against Haskell Indian Nations University on Friday.
    Mac will play Stephens College of Missouri later on Friday at 5 p.m. and then take on Central Methodist University and Peru State College on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
