1. Support United Way
The United Way campaign kickoff- will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at the McPherson Opera House Ballroom, 219 S. Main.

United Way of McPherson County aspires to raise $225,000 by Dec. 31. All funds received through individual, business and employee campaign pledges will remain in McPherson County to support human service programs addressing issues related to health, education and financial stability.

2. Run or walk to fight cancer
The first Giving Hope Cancer Fund 5K Walk/Run will be Saturday.
Registration is at 8 a.m. The walk/run starts at 9 a.m. at Lakeside Cabin in Lakeside Park in McPherson.

3. You-can-do-a-hill
The 17th Annual I-Did-A-Hill Run will be Saturday.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. at the fire station, 102 E. Walnut, Roxbury. There will be a 2 and 4 miles noncompetitive walk and 2 mile and 6 mile runs. This is a joint project of the Gypsum and Roxbury Lions Clubs. For further information, call 785-254-7355.

4. Stop and smell the flowers
Maxwell Wildlife Refuge will give Fall Wildflower Tours at 10 a.m. Saturday at the refuge, 2565 Pueblo Road, Canton. Enjoy the vibrant colors of the fall foliage and flowers by tram with several stops along the way for viewing and pictures.

5. Pull a fire truck to raise money to fight cancer
Battle of the Buses will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Lindsborg. Guardians of the Ribbon will have a pink fire truck at Scott's Hometown Foods.
People who have been affected by cancer are invited to sign the truck.
Teams of up to 10 people can sign up to pull the fire truck for a 100 feet timed pull.
The entry fee is $100 per team.
Registration will be accepted on-site until 10 a.m. Gloves are required.
