For the fifth time this season, the CCC volleyball team played a match on the road. This time, the Tigers travelled to Moberly, Mo., to take on Central Christian College of the Bible, a NCCAA Division II school.
After four frustrating performances that included being swept in three matches, the Tigers finally came away with a sweep of their own. The Tiger defeated CCCB 25-11, 25-17, 25-14.
The Tigers received word at practice on Friday afternoon that the eligibility of sophomore transfer, Mayuko Shono, a 5-foot-9 outside hitter, eligibility had gone through.
Shono quickly made her presence felt on the court leading the Tigers with 12 kills on 19 attempts with just 1 error.
As a team, the Tigers recorded 36 kills on 70 attempts with 6 errors for a .460 attack percentage.
Defensively, the Tigers had two players with double digit dig totals. Sophomore libero, Kathryn Lott, led the way with 14 digs, 10 service receptions, and just two receiving errors.
Brittany Bergstrom was right behind Lott with 10 defensive digs. She received serve three times and had zero reception errors.
Besides hitting well, the Tigers also served very well. The Tigers served 65 times and recorded 17 aces and just 7 errors.
Bergstrom had a great day serving with 5 aces and 2 errors.
"Really proud of the way the girls played today,” Tiger coach Christina Ludwick said. “Our offense finally clicked and our hitters were putting the ball away. We're looking forward to some time off this week to continue to fine tune and build off of this win."
The Tigers are now 1-4 on the season. They have about a week off before going back on the road for a triangular at Hillsdale Baptist against Hillsdale, and Champion Baptist on Saturday.
The Tigers will play at 2:00 and 4:00 pm.
