  • Based on Sept. 1 conditions, Kansas’s 2013 corn crop is forecast at 525 million bushels, 38 percent above last year’s production, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. 
    Area to be harvested for grain, at 4.20 million acres, is up 6 percent from a year ago.  Yield is forecast at 125 bushels per acre, up 29 bushels from last year.
    Sorghum for grain in Kansas is forecast at 195 million bushels, more than double last year. 
    Area for harvest, at 2.6 million acres, is up 124 percent from 2012.  Yield is forecast at 75 bushels per acre, up 36 bushels from last year.
    Kansas’s soybean production is forecast at 133 million bushels, up 58 percent from last year.  
    Area for harvest, at 3.69 million acres, is 3 percent below 2012.  Yield is forecast at 36 bushels per acre, 14 bushels above last year.
    Cotton production is forecast at 39,000 bales, down 44 percent from last year.  Yield is forecast at 720 pounds per acre, up from 622 pounds per acre in 2012.
    Acreage for harvest, at 26,000 acres, is down 28,000 acres from 2012.  Planted acreage was revised down 3,000 acres to 27,000 acres.
