  • Mary Loewen, 92, of McPherson passed away at 10:20 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, peacefully, at Loving Care of McPherson.

  • Mary Loewen, 92, of McPherson passed away at 10:20 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, peacefully, at Loving Care of McPherson.
    Mary was born on May 22, 1921, in Olpe, the daughter of Nettie C. (Snider) and Jake E. Haag.
    Mary attended the Olpe grade schools and graduated from Olpe High School, Olpe. She then attended Venus Cosmetology College in 1941 in Wichita.
    Mary was a member of First Baptist Church McPherson.
    Mary was a cosmetologist for 10 years at Daisy's Beauty Shop in McPherson, was a homemaker while the children were at home, and then was a dietary aide at Memorial Hospital in McPherson for 23 years before retiring.
    Mary enjoyed working, yard work, traveling and spending time with the grandkids.
    Mary Ida Haag was united in marriage to Wilferd “Bill” Loewen on April 24, 1949, at McPherson. Bill died on Jan. 13, 2013.
    She is survived by her daughter Glenna Balsick, of McPherson; her brother Harold Haag, of Emporia; her sister Jeanette Gunkle and her husband Earl, of Stockton, Calif.; her three granddaughters Jenna Balsick, of McPherson, Sydney Hunt and her husband Jason, of McPherson, and Kristen Jukes, of Kansas City, Mo.; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
    Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her daughters, Jolene Loewen (stillborn) and Janice Jukes; her son-in-law, Steven Jukes; her brothers, James, Jerome, Gilbert, and Ralph Haag; and sisters, Luellen Haag and Mildred McCue.
    Friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept, 22, 2013, at Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, McPherson.
    The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at the First Baptist Church, McPherson, with Pastor Terry Tareila officiating.
    Final resting place will be at the McPherson Cemetery McPherson.
    Memorial contributions may be given to American Heart Association or First Baptist Church, and they can be sent in care of the Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home; 222 W. Euclid St.; McPherson, KS 67460.
