  • In the "Romp at the Ridge" meet, hosted by Hutchinson County Community College, both the men's and women's cross country teams of McPherson College competed well on one of the few courses in Kansas made solely for cross country.
"Our women's team battled well on a tough course without some of our top tier runners," head coach Cameron Magnall said. "I am pleased with our progression this early in the season. The men ran a smart, tactical race and the end result exceeded my expectations."
The Lady Bulldogs finished fifth out of 10 teams and were the top NAIA squad.
Senior Aspen Frey led the way for MC with her 20:53.6 ninth place finish. Savana Cross was one spot out of the top-15 and rounding out the scoring five were Miranda Clark, Damaje Markham and Erika Doty.
In the men's race, a surprising third place finish, first amongst non-Junior College or NCAA institutions, was led by Kwan Leung as he took 21st overall. He was the second NAIA athlete to complete the course and did so at 28:40.6.
Junior transfer Chris Newell was six places behind Leung and quickly following him was a pack of 'Dogs made up of Michael Janzer, Brandon Sherier and Kurt Katzdorn.
McPherson will next be on the course Sept. 28 at the Tabor College Invitational.
