  • McPherson High faced a tough field Thursday in the Buhler Invitational, though they still managed to bring home 10 medals.
The boys varsity runners finished in fifth place, with Ryen Trost picking up the best individual finish at 17th with a time of 18 minutes, 48.8 seconds. Wyatt Porter was just behind at 22nd (18:59.6).
On the girls’ side, sophomore Christina Wankum continued her string of top five finishes, taking fourth place with a time of 16:23.7. The Lady Pups finished in 11th place out of 17 teams.
The JV girls and boys both put up top three performances in their races, with the girls finishing second and the boys third. The top finish for the girls was MacKenzie Benson, who finished 10th with a time of 20:20.9. Dalyn Chapman was the top boys’ finisher at 11th (20:57.1).
“The kids ran pretty well today on a tough course,” MHS coach Gentry Nixon said. “There were 17 teams and a lot of very talented runners. While [personal records] were hard to come by, we did come home with 10 medals. There were a lot of gutsy runs and finishes.”
The Bullpups will be at home next Thursday for their own invitational. The meet will be held starting at 4:30 p.m. at Rolling Acres Golf Course.
