  • In search of their first conference win, the Bethany College volleyball team hosted KCAC foe Sterling College Saturday.
After falling behind early, the Swedes fought back in game one to force extra points, but fell 24-26.
Game two resulted in another close battle, but Bethany came up short again 26-28. The Swedes rallied back to win game three 25-23, but could not grab another win as they fell 13-25 in game four, resulting in the Warriors of Sterling defeating Bethany 3-1.
"We had to make adjustments to our lineup and the girls worked really hard to make things work," Swede coach Nathalea Stephenson said. "I was pleased with their effort and never give up attitude. The girls stepped up and played well for us. When you are down 20-12 and come back to a score of 24-26, you know your team is working at doing things the right way. I was very proud of the way they worked together and their never give up attitude."
Sophomore Bryanna Cool led the Swedes offense with 10 kills as junior Alexa Gerber added nine and freshman Whitney Williams contributed six.
Gerber tallied 18 assists while freshman Eileen Vlamis added 14. Gerber totaled 14 digs on the afternoon while junior Ariel Buhr added 13 and sophomore Quethzally Chaparro tacked on 10.
Senior Kaitlyn Davis threw down four solo blocks as freshman Elin Saxon added one.
The Swedes are now 0-4 in the KCAC and 3-11 overall. Bethany next hits the court at Southwestern College tonight. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
