The McPherson Middle School eighth grade football team blasted Great Bend Thursday 48-0 in front of a home crowd at the middle school.
Andrew Powell was all over the field for MMS offensively, rushing for five touchdowns and a PAT. Mason Alexander added a touchdown pass to Ben Pyle, while Nolan Schrader added his own touchdown run. Alexander also threw PATs to Gunner Reiss.
Defensively, the Pups earned high praise from head coach Brandon Labertew.
“Once again the Defense played well,” Labertew said. “Defense team members are Wyatt Seidl, Auston Hunt, Thomas Diggs, Gunner Reiss, Nolan Schrader, Jayse Alexander, Kollin Goering, Ben Nikkel, Devin Cape, Zane Myers, Drew Labertew and Ben Pyle.”
MMS forced six turnovers, with Schrader grabbing an interception and two fumble recoveries. Pyle had two interceptions, while Alexander added one pick.
The JV squad also picked up a win by a sizeable margin over Great Bend, winning 38-0. Forrest Potter had three touchdown runs and a two-point conversion. Kolton Lare added a rushing touchdown of his own, while Nathan Vontz caught a touchdown pass from Lare. Lare, Vontz and Colton Geren all had PATs.
Only two games remain in the MMS season, both at home. The Pups host Pratt-Liberty Thursday, then round out the season against Salina Lakewood on Oct. 10.
