  • Thanks to their strong finishes in the Southwestern College Fall Invitational earlier this week, Central Christian College’s Treg Fawl and Mark Gayer both qualified for the National Christian College Athletic Association’s National Golf Tournament beginning Oct. 20 in Panama City, Fla.
As a team, the Tiger men had their best showing of the year finishing third.
Fawl and Gayer, both McPherson High School graduates, shot identical scores to finish tied for 3rd place in the individual race. Fawl shot 75 and 78 for a total of 153, while Gayer shot 78 and 75, also finishing with a 153.
This will be the second straight year Fawl has qualified for the national tournament, with both golfers having previously qualified for the Kansas Amateur championships in the past.
Qualification into the NCCAA tournament was based off of scoring averages from Fawl and Gayer’s three fall tournaments played to date.
Brady Sherman finished tied for 21st with a two day total of 170. He shot 79 on Monday but had a rough go of it on Tuesday shooting 91.
Matthew Hargett rounded out the Tigers' scoring with a 178, shooting 88 on the first day and following it up with a 90 on day two.
The ladies competed as individual medalists because only three team members participated in the event.
Rebecca Downing was the low scorer for the Tigers with a total score of 189. She shot 94 on Monday and 95 on Tuesday. She finished in 13th place.
Freshman Caitlin Corn finished in 21st place shooting 104, 98, 202 and Keindra Williams finished tied for 24th with a two day total of 206.
CCC has one more tournament before they wrap up their fall season. The Tigers will be travelling over to Sterling College to play in the Sterling Fall Invite Oct. 7-8.
