  • Professor of Art A. Mary Kay and Associate Professor of Art Frank Shaw will exhibit selections of recent work from Friday to Nov. 1 at the Erman B. White Gallery at Butler Community College in El Dorado.
A reception to meet the artists will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Kay will exhibit paintings from her Infinite series of The Remains of Nature. Ranging in size from 18 feet to 14 inches, these paintings use forms from nature arranged in pairs and groups that suggest an indefinable narrative: teeth stacked or soldiering stamens; vertebrae marching; the sexual organ of a flower coupled with a jawbone. Her work has been described as “ferocious and delicate,” laced as it is with sex and death.
Shaw will exhibit elements from the series Theories of Relationship. “Painting is my library; shape and color fill my dictionary,” Shaw said. “A painting tells an ineffable story: The Love and Sorrow of Pink; A Green Sun Sets; The End of Blue; The Seduction of Violet Gray. These paintings are stories — accounts of the way two people are drawn together or walk on, talk and misunderstand, live together in laughter or silence, and turn to one another in longing or anger.”
