  • The first Sunday in October is Life Chain Sunday, which is celebrated nationwide and in Canada and which allows Christians from all denominations to join together in common public witness to the sanctity of life from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death.
    McPherson’s Life Chain is the city’s largest annual pro-life event.
    Participants will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at Linnea Park (Kansas and Elm). Following a brief time of sharing, Life Chainers will line several blocks on Kansas Avenue for one hour in silent, prayerful witness, holding signs with various pro-life messages.
    Those who choose can remain in Linnea Park for prayer. Seating will be provided.
    In 2012, 7,457 abortions were performed in Kansas, down from 7,885 in 2011. No abortions were performed on unborn children with a gestation age of 22 weeks or more.
    The number of abortions in Kansas has been trending downward this century from 13,327 in 2000. Support for abortion in the United States has also been trending downward as has the number of abortion clinics. So far this year, a record 44 clinics have closed.
