  •  The McPherson Middle School girls’ volleyball team put up a super performance Thursday, sweeping host Emporia and Salina Lakewood in both the A-team and B-team triangulars.
The A-Team took down Lakewood in two sets 25-17, 25-16. They followed that up in the final game of the triangular by downing Emporia 2-0 (25-10, 25-18). Addie Fitzmoris had seven aces, as did Kallie Jost. Kallie Jost and Michaela Bowers both had five aces for the Pups.
“What a super night the girls had at Emporia,” MMS coach Dancia Fitzmorris said. “Our systems were all working; serving, passing (serve receive), transitions off and on the net and setting/hitting. I told the girls at the end of the first game in our second match that usually I have a list compiled of practice needs, but I absolutely had no list compiled.”
Meghan Smith led the Pup offense with eight kills, while Megan Eisenbarth and Chelsea Stoppel both had two. Jacey Burghart had 13 assists and six digs.
In the B-team game, MMS went three sets with both Lakewood and Emporia, winning both 2-1. In the first game against Salina Lakewood, the Pups won 25-15, 20-25, 16-14. Against Emporia, they won 25-22, 20-25, 15-6.
“I was so proud of the way they came together as a team and did not give up after dropping the second set in both matches,” Dancia Fitzmorris said. “Hannah Kirchner and Brooke Miller were aggressive at the net and setters Ashley Achilles and Megan Manning did a nice job of getting the ball to our hitters. Megan Saverino passed the ball well, and Alaina Diggs did a great job serving.”
The A-team is now 8-7 on the year, while the B-team moves to 9-4-2. Both teams are in action today at the Salina Lakewood Tournament.
The seventh grade season ends Tuesday with a triangular at the MHS Roundhouse. Start time is at 3:30 p.m.
