  • 1. Hear a Chili Chat
    The McPherson Museum & Arts Foundation will host a lecture called Chili Chat at noon Saturday in the museum’s Gathering Hall, 1111 E. Kansas Ave.
    Mike Mitchell, professor of chemistry at Bethany College (retired), will lead a discussion on Science Fiction vs. Science Fact. Chili, crackers, dessert and coffee available on a first-come, first-served basis. Admission $5; $3 for members.

    2. Eat some BBQ
    Elyria Christian School will have a barbecue beef dinner and bake sale from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the McPherson 4-H Building.
    Menu includes barbecue beef sandwich, baked beans, potato chips, cabbage slaw, coffee and tea. There also will be singing and performances by Elyria Christian School students. Everyone welcome. Entry is free-will donation. Carry-out available.
    3. Enjoy the fine arts
    Central Christian College will have a Fine Arts Spotlight (Ensembles) at 7 p.m. Friday in Greer Auditorium.

    4. Get a child screened
    The Early Childhood Program and McPherson County Special Education Cooperative will have preschool screenings for children from birth to age 5 Friday at the First Mennonite Church in Moundridge. Check your child's growth and development — vision, hearing, motor, cognitive and speech. To make an appointment for screening, call the Early Childhood Center at 620-241-9590.
    5. Join the vigil
    The Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Center will have a candlelight vigil at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Main Steet Plaza, 200 block of North Main, McPherson. Alternate date is Oct. 18 if there is rain. The vigil is to remind survivors still suffering that there is help available and to remember those who did not survive. Public is welcome to bring a pre-decorated T-shirt for a Clothesline Project.
