  • The CCC volleyball team hosted the MCAC's 3rd place team, the College of St. Mary Flames, on Saturday for an afternoon match.
The Tigers put up a good fight, but in the end, the Flames were too much for the Tigers taking the match in 3 sets 25-17, 25-17, 30-28.
In the first two sets, the Tigers and Flames were even at the midway mark of the match, but in each set, a bad rotation allowed the Flames to pull away.
In the final set, the Tigers kept things close the entire way, but poor serving down the stretch allowed the Flames to squeak out a win.
Mayuko Shono and Israel Espinosa both had live arms for the Tiger offense.
Shono had a .379 hitting percentage with 14 kills on 29 attempts and 3 errors.
Espinosa had one less kill but ended up with a .407 hitting percentage on 13 kills on 27 attempts and just 2 errors.
The stat lines for both teams were very close to each other. The Flames had 44 kills while the Tigers had 38.
Both teams had 120 attempts, the Tigers had 18 errors while the Flames had 13.
One of the discrepancies came in the serving game. The Tigers had 5 aces while the Flames had 8, and the Tigers recorded 8 service errors and CSM had only 3.
On defense, the Tigers recorded 3 total blocks. Brittany Bergstrom tallied both a solo block and an assisted block.
The loss drops the Tigers to 4-15 on the season and 0-9 in MCAC play.
The Tigers will have a week off before playing a triangular Saturday against Harris-Stowe State College and Bacone College.
The games will take place at 11 am and 3 pm during homecoming weekend on Central Christian College's campus.
