Canton-Galva finished fifth in their home invitational Saturday, defeating Little River in bracket play.
The Eagles went 1-2 in pool play, falling to Hillsboro (14-25, 10-25) and Halstead (15-25, 12-25). They finished out the morning session with a 25-10, 25-17 win over Central Christian.
“We struggled against stiff competition in the morning,” Canton-Galva coach Jenny Loyd said, “but came out strong in the afternoon matches.”
Little River, meanwhile, also went 1-2 in pool play. They fell to Goessel 25-14, 25-18 to open up the tournament. That was followed by a three-set thriller with Wichita Sunrise, which the Redskins dropped 1-2 (25-15, 18-25, 23-25).
Little River picked up a win over Solomon 25-8, 25-10.
The Eagles only needed two sets to take first place over Little River, winning 26-24, 25-21.
Canton-Galva’s Erika Smith and Little River’s Skylar Johnston and Emily Baldwin were all named to the all-tournament team.
