On Wednesday morning, families gathered in a number of locations throughout McPherson for National Walk to School Day.
Becky Tatro, grandmother of Washington Elementary School student Carter Thul and Washington pre-kindergarten student Maddox Thul, said it was a fun thing to do with her grandchildren.
“This is probably my third year here,” Tatro said, “and I enjoy coming down and walking with my grandkids.”
Grandson Carter said he also thought it was fun.
“It’s good. It’s fun to walk with my friends and family,” Carter said.
Walk to School Day was started by the Partnership for a Walkable American in 1997. The event is meant to teach and reinforce concepts of taking part in healthy and community activities, as well as learn about pedestrian safety.
After the walk, students and accompanying family were invited to a free breakfast at their students’ schools.
