  • President’s Award to go to Gary Hess at Chamber event

  • The McPherson Chamber of Commerce will host a “It’s A Tailgate Party” Business After Hours, EXPO & Annual Meeting from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Best Western Holiday Manor Convention Center.  “The annual responsibility of the past presidents of the Chamber is to meet once a year to make the selection of the President’s Award honoree” said Jennifer Burch, executive director of the McPherson Chamber of Commerce. The criteria for the award states 1) Candidates shall have given unselfishly of their time for the betterment of the business community 2) The recipient’s contribution to the McPherson business community shall be readily identifiable and have a long term impact 3) The recipient is not required to be a Chamber member, and may be male or female 4) Only one deserving individual shall be honored annually. “McPherson is a community very fortunate to have quite of number of individuals that would qualify for the award, it is always a difficult decision that the Past Presidents have to make”, added Burch.
    Moving to McPherson in 2000, Gary Hess jumped full force in getting involved in the civic support and the community development of McPherson. Hess has served on the McPherson Museum Arts and Foundation Board, Museum Capital Campaign Committee, McPherson Chamber of Commerce Board, President, Chamber Vision 2010 Community Development and past member of the Light Capital Kiwanis Club. Currently he serves as the President of the Go McPherson Board. “Gary gives more than 100% in what he is committed to and doesn’t take on anything that he is not passionate about,” added Burch. “I have had the privilege to work directly with Gary on many projects and initiatives and his dedication is very evident in the areas he has served” added Burch.
    Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the Business After Hours & EXPO and those attending are encouraged to wear their favorite football team jersey or fanwear for the casual themed evening. The Chamber business portion of the evening begins at 6:30 as well as the presentation of the 2013 President’s Award to Gary Hess. Reservations are required by calling the Chamber at 241-3303 ($15.00 admittance includes hors d’ oeuvres). EXPO tables are available for Chamber members at $50.00 (includes 1 admittance).
