A host of new opponents dot the landscape for the McPherson High School football team in the coming two years, as announced Wednesday by MHS.
Not only that, but district opponents were similarly revealed for the next two years by the Kansas State High School Activities Association, with almost all area teams seeing a shift of some sort in the coming years.
McPherson, who will move to the newly created Class 4A Division I in 2014, will have a pair of cross division teams to start next season, as they will face Salina South in week one on the road, then host Andale in week two.
The Bullpups will then travel the next two weeks to Augusta and Rose Hill, respectively. Augusta is moving up to the Division III of the AVCTL next year, while this week’s opponent, Mulvane, will drop down to Div. IV.
After being on the road three of the first four weeks of the year, MHS will be at McPherson Stadium four of the final five weeks of the season, starting with El Dorado in week five and Winfield in week six.
District play starts at Abilene in week seven, with two new district opponents to visit McPherson the corresponding weeks. Week eight will see Buhler in a district and Div. III showdown, while Hays will come to town to close out the season.
Specific dates will be announced at a later date.
In other area district changes, Smoky Valley High School will compete in the Class 4A Div. II next season. Its district includes Chapman, Nickerson and Wamego.
Inman and Moundridge will both be in the same Class 2-1A district, along with Medicine Lodge, Salina Sacred Heart and Sedgwick.
Little River and Canton-Galva both stay put in their 8-Man Division I district with Central Plains, Ellinwood, Goessel and Solomon.
