  • Battery suspect in jail; father’s condition improves

  • A Fort Worth, Texas, man remains in the McPherson County jail after being arrested Friday.
    Charges against Chadwick P. Pennington, 26, include domestic battery, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, burglary and felony criminal damage to property. His bond is set at $100,000.
    The suspect’s arrest occurred after McPherson Police Officers were called out to the Wheat State Motel, 111 S. Roosevelt, and found Pennington’s father, Bobby D. Pennington, 51, unresponsive and bleeding profusely from the head in a motel room.
    Chadwick Pennington was armed with a knife and was tased by an officer, after which he was taken into custody.
    Bobby Pennington remains in Wesley Medical Center’s trauma unit, where his condition has improved from critical to stable. Doctors are keeping him in a medically induced coma to aid in the healing process. Officers will interview him once his condition has improved enough to allow him to resume consciousness.
    An investigation into the incidents leading up to Chadwick Pennington’s Friday arrest is still ongoing.
