      Comment
  • The McPherson County Commission announced the appointment of an acting director of emergency management at its meeting Monday.
Darren Frazier, director of 911 Communications, was appointed as acting director of emergency management to replace Dillard Webster, who resigned as of Oct. 1.
McPherson resident Nick Reineker approached the commission Monday with concerns about a lack of director of Emergency Management.
Commissioners told Reineker they may have a decision on filling the position as soon as next week.
    Health insurance
The commission reviewed a report on changes to county employee health insurance plans
A 2 percent increase in health plan costs is anticipated for the next year.
The increase will not affect the amount employees pay. The increase will be absorbed by the county.
The plan was signed by the commission and will be sent to Blue Cross and Blue Shield to continue the process.
    Treasurer requests raise
County Treasurer Brenda Becker approached the commission with a request for an increase in pay due to a possible discrepancy in the filing fee she had been required to pay to run for the office.
The filing fee is typically 1 percent of a candidate's salary while in office. In Becker's case, the fee was substantially more.
The commission turned down the pay increase request and recommended Becker take the fee discrepancy issue up with Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach's office.
In other business, the county commission:
    • Approved paying $3,000 for Microsoft software licenses for the courthouse.
    • Approved cereal malt beverage licenses for New Gottland and Smoky Valley townships.
    • The commission allowed $59,650 from the Juvenile Intensive Supervision Program to be moved to the Harvey County teen court program.
