McPherson High School’s volleyball team continued it’s run up to sub-state next week with a pair of wins in an AVCTL Div. III triangular Tuesday against Winfield and Buhler.
The Pups had no trouble dispatching Winfield in their first match of the day, winning 25-2, 25-5.
“ We were trying to play error free and not give any unearned points,” MHS coach Christy Doile said of her team’s game plan against Winfield. “We tried to keep the ball, string points, work on our offensive plays and serving placement.”
In the night cap, the Pups were faced with a raucous Buhler home crowd and student section as the Crusaders celebrated their senior night. MHS (34-2) had to adjust to the crowd noise, as the Buhler faithful were fired up, but won in straight sets 25-14, 25-18.
“We didn’t play probably as well as we would have liked,” Doile said, “but I was happy to see our intensity level didn’t drop on this Tuesday coming off of our tournament win. I thought we did a good job of handling the crowd and their runs.”
In the JV matches, McPherson (21-5) defeated both Winfield (25-12, 25-11) and Buhler (25-5, 25-16).
“We continued to play well despite additional injuries,” JV coach Diane Marshall said. “Girls are stepping into new roles and doing a great job.”
The JV Pups are playing in the AVCTL Division I tournament this weekend at Newton High School.
Both the JV and the varsity will be home for senior night at the Roundhouse Tuesday in a triangular against Circle and Clearwater. Match time is at 5 p.m.
