  • Crews began plans this week to cut down trees to the north of CertainTeed north of Vanguard Street and the city limits.
The tree-cutting plans marked the beginnings of the CertainTeed-Oxford Point Drainage Project.
The project will involve construction of a new drainage channel running from Oxford Point to the area north of CertainTeed.
The project, which will cost about $900,000, will utilize a grass-lined channel as opposed to concrete.
The trees remaining on the north side of CertainTeed will have to be cut down in order to clear ground for building the channel.
The work will progress quickly once the city has decided what the most economical is to dispose of the trees.
The city also is staking and flagging the edge of the drainage easement path behind houses and properties in the Penn, Oxford, Harvest and Hunter street areas.
A public meeting on the CertainTeed-Oxford Point drainage project will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the McPherson Municipal Center.
