  • Orie Gene Campbell, 73, of McPherson, passed away at 4:10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, while in the company of family members, at Pine Village, Moundridge.

  • Orie Gene Campbell, 73, of McPherson, passed away at 4:10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, while in the company of family members, at Pine Village, Moundridge.
    Gene was born on Dec. 11, 1939, in Larned, son of Mirtie Marie (Tracy) Campbell-Locut and Orie J. Campbell.
    Gene attended the Larned and Iola schools.
    Through the years, Gene worked at the Coleman Company, and retired as a building maintenance engineer for USD 259.  He worked other various jobs and was a jack-of-all-trades.
    Gene was a member of the Kansas Honey Producers Association. He enjoyed the out-of-doors, hunting, fishing, bird watching, beekeeping and nature in general.  He loved ice cream.   Gene and Fay enjoyed all the trips they took with Village Tours.
    Orie Gene Campbell was united in marriage to Fayneta J. “Fay” Beattie on May 13, 1995, at McPherson
    Surviving family members include his loving and devoted wife of more than 18 years, Fayneta “Fay” Campbell, of McPherson; his daughters, Jo Goff and husband Jim, of Jetmore, Jan E. Carter, and husband Eddie Farris, of Valley Center, Rose A. Payne and husband Allen, of Valley Center, and Crystal N. Fortner and husband Donnie, of Wichita; his siblings, Alvin Campbell and Sue, of Lowell, Ark., Thomas “Tom” Campbell and wife Loretta, of Moran, Victor “Butch” Campbell and wife Marilyn, of Rogers, Arkansas, Carolyn Swift, of Wichita, and Louise McGarrah and husband Larry, of Rogers, Ark.;  seven grandchildren — Tony, Sabrina, Steven, Emily, Laura, Sarah, and Hannah; three great-grandchildren — Ashton, Gabriel, and Kaitlin; many nieces and nephews, and other relatives.
    Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Orie and Mirtie Campbell; a daughter, Mary Louise Campbell; two half-sisters, Ollie May Kresge and Pearl Branstetter; and a half brother, Donald Speer and a baby brother, Charles Campbell.
    Friends are invited to call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, with family present at Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson.
    Graveside service will be at 2p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at Larned Cemetery, Larned, with Chaplain Bill Eichelberger with Good Shepherd Hospice, Newton, officiating.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Orie Gene may be made to Pine Village Retirement Community or Alzheimer’s Association, and they can be sent in care of the Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home; 222 W. Euclid St.; McPherson, KS 67460.
