1. Donate socks
Fifth graders at Inman Elementary School are having a Sock Drive and Fundraiser for the homeless in the area during the month of October. The students were inspired by Kid President and his Socktober Drive. For each new pair of socks that is donated, the students are asking for a donation of 25 cents to the homeless. The money raised will be donated to a shelter being built for homeless women in Little Rock, Ark. The goal is to raise $200. For more information, contact Kelly Turcotte at 620-585-6555 or kturcotte@
2. Enjoy a sunset on the prairie
Maxwell Wildlife Refuge will offer its Late Fall Sunset Tour. The Friends of Maxwell is offering an evening for all ages with tour and a campfire meal Saturday night. Prairie goblins are allowed. A prize will be awarded for most unique children’s costume.

3. Have a ghoulish good time
The American Legion, 401 N. Main St., will have a Halloween party Saturday night. The party is for adults only. You do not have to be a Legion member to attend.
Music will be by Second Nature, and there will be a best Halloween costume contest.
There will be a $5 coverage charge for the band and a charge for the costume contest that will be announced later.

4. Walk for fitness
The Commit 2 Get Fit Wellness Challenge will have another community walk at 4 p.m. Sunday. This time the event will be at Lakeside Park in McPherson.
There is no charge for the event.

5. Trick or Treat on Main Street
Bring the little ghosts and goblins to downtown McPherson from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday (or until the candy runs out) to trick or treat with McPherson merchants during Trick or Treat Down Main Street. For more information, call 241-7430.
The Trick or Treat Down Main Street is free and open to the public.
Also downtown Thursday night will be the annual Beta Sigma Phi Halloween Carnival from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Community Building, 122 E. Marlin St. Costume judging will be at 6:30 p.m.
