Select members of the Bethany College men's golf team have been invited to two prestigious golf tournaments.
Senior James Tisdale and junior Jose Luis Lelo de Larrea are invited to the 83rd Dixie Amateur Championship. The event is scheduled for Dec. 19-22, 2013 in Florida.
Round one and two take place on December 19-20 at Woodlands East and West Golf Course in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
At the completion of the first two rounds, the top 72 players and ties, based on total score, will continue on to play in the Dixie Amateur Championship.
Championship rounds three and four take place Dec. 21-22 at Heron Bay Golf Club in Coral Springs, Fla.
The Dixie Amateur began in 1924 and was played at the old Miami Country Club.
In 1953, the event was discontinued until 1962, and has been played continuously since 1962. The tournament attracts the top players in the United States.
Junior Ben Johnson has been invited to the 2013 Patriot All-America Invitational.
The Invitational takes place Dec. 27-31 at The Wigwam Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
The event features PING All-Americans from the previous season in NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, NJCAA, and AJGA ranks.
The three round, 54-hole amateur event combines nationally recognized players in a holiday bowl-like experience.
"It is a testament to these players and the work they have put in that they have been invited to participate in these prestigious events," Swede coach Jon Daniels. "I am very proud of them for what they have accomplished and what they will accomplish.”
They have helped to rewrite the history of golf at Bethany College. They are also very good students and as good as they are in golf they are even better people."
