McPherson County has been approved to receive federal disaster aid for the severe weather that occurred in July and August.
Darren Frazier, acting Director of McPherson County Emergency Management, said this means the federal government will cover 75 percent of the cost to clean and repair public property, such as bridges, schools and parks.
Frazier said there is currently no coverage for private property.
Frazier also said the Kansas Department of Emergency Management will collect more information on actual cost estimates through site visits.
Frazier said no funds have been allocated yet because the government shutdown slowed the process.
