The McPherson County Historical Society will have its 44th annual banquet of the seven historical organizations of McPherson County on Nov. 9.
The banquet will feature a Swedish-style dinner served at 6 p.m. at the Messiah Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 402 N. First St., Lindsborg, with doors opening at 5 p.m.
The Smoky Valley Historical Association will host the event. Door prizes will be awarded.
Banquet tickets are $15 and are available through the presidents of the county historical organizations in various communities. Tickets in McPherson can be purchased at the Home State Bank & Trust’s downtown location with a deadline of Nov. 6.
The guest speaker will be Ron Michael, curator of the Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery, giving a talk titled “The Life and Times of Birger Sandzén” (1871-1954). Sandzén was a renowned Swedish-American artist who lived in Lindsborg and taught at Bethany College for 52 years.
A private after-dinner tour of the gallery, just across the street from the church, will be the closing highlight of the evening.
Descendents of McPherson County pioneer families who settled in the county on or before 1913 and are still living in the county and have previously filled out a form will be inducted into the McPherson County Pioneer Register.
