  • The annual campaign for United Way of McPherson County is in full force and according to Anne Kirchner, executive director, the excitement is building as employee campaigns have begun reporting results.
“As of Oct. 18, we have received pledges totaling $81,817 which is 36 percent of our $225,000 goal,” she said. “This is good news as last year at this same time we had only reached 25 percent of our goal.”
Employee campaigns provide more than 40 percent of the overall dollars pledged each year for United Way. Kirchner spends many hours visiting with companies about the impact their commitments make throughout the community.
“Employees have the option to make pledges through payroll deduction, which allows an individual to spread their donation throughout the year,” Kirchner said. “In addition, many companies will match an employee’s commitment, which is even more meaningful.”
During 2013, more than 35 businesses and companies throughout McPherson County have committed to hosting an employee campaign. In addition, United Way has been dedicated to establishing new employee campaigns to strengthen the giving program. This year’s campaign welcomes Pine Village, Mid Kansas Coop, Citizen’s State Bank, The Children’s Center, Smoky Valley USD 400, Salina YMCA, WinField and Cargill.
“This year’s theme — join the team — provided opportunity to invite others to join the effort,” Kirchner said. “Every dollar counts. The more individuals we can engage in the United Way movement, the more lives we will be able to help.”
